  •  A “Green Committee” was established in January 2008, charged with implementation of necessary steps to promote sustainability.
  • The Green Committee consists of four sub-committees:
    *Air (quality, filtration) * Water (conservation) * Waste (recycle, reduce, reuse) * Energy (conservation & renewable)
  • In an effort to achieve an environmentally friendly business, as well as conserve and protect Colorado’s natural resources, The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa promotes our facility as a green lodge through the following programs:

 

Departmental Programs

Housekeeping/Laindry

  • Linen and towel reuse program
  • Use Environmentally Preferred Cleaners
  • Use Elemental Chlorine Free Bath Tissue
  • Adjusted water usage on washing machines in laundry
  • Recycle bins on every floor landing for housekeeper use
  • Auto faucets and toilets in public area
  • Draperies and shades are closed in unoccupied rooms
  • Equipment has been replaced with Energy Star washing machines
  • Leaks in toilets and faucets are checked on a regular basis
  • Glasses and mugs are used instead of disposables
  • Conserve water and electricity

Engineering

  • Recycle batteries
  • Use air filters that are MERV 8 rated
  • Vent and filters are cleaned regularly
  • Use only Compact Florescent Energy Star light bulbs
  • Use of atrium lighting for daylight
  • Environmentally friendly cleaners are used
  • HVAC equipment is working properly
  • Conserve water and electricity
  • Energy Rated televisions
  • Solar panel energy is used for 24 hour lights on hotel flags

Front Desk/Bell Stand

  • Recycle paper
  • Recycle toner cartridges
  • Recycle newspapers
  • Recycle program for corrugated boxes
  • Guests are encouraged to recycle
  • Rental bicycle program in place for guests
  • Conserve water and electricity

Banquets

  • Use pitchers for water set up in banquet rooms using our Artesian well water
  • Offers local beer and wine selection
  • Conserves water and electricity

Offices

  • HR Cyber Recruiting (paperless applications)
  • Pay stubs are emailed rather than printed
  • Recycle paper
  • Recycle toner cartridges
  • Recycle newspapers
  • Conserve water and electricity
  • Energy rated copiers, monitors
  • Trash compactor
  • Recycle eye glasses through Gift for Sight
  • Recycle cell phones through Cell Phones for Soldiers

Culinary/Kitchen

  • Single stream recycling is used through Waste Management company to include composting
  • 100% sustainable seafood menu
  • Water source for the hotel is our own Artesian Well, located 750 feet below the hotel
  • All kitchen equipment is being replaced with Energy Star units
  • Reusable glassware is used in the employee dining area
  • Seasonal and locally grown foods are used
  • Cooking oils are recycled into bio-diesel
  • Hood/Vents are serviced and cleaned regularly
