The Brown Palace Hotel has made a commitment to not only be the best hotel in Denver, but also be the best hotel for our Denver community. The Sustainability committee supports this mission by

  • Raising awareness of sustainability in our guests and associates
  • Reducing our consumption of water and energy
  • Increasing our waste diversion rate through recycling, and compost
  • And creating a culture of sustainability in the way we, live, operate and innovate 

Green Team Action Plan by 2015: 

  1. Reach a 80% diversion rate by the year 2015 through recycling, composting and awareness training with staff
  2. Reduce Electricity consumption by 10% by 2015 through lighting upgrades and awareness training with staff
  3. Reduce water consumption  by 16% by 2015 through updating facilities and awareness training with staff
  4. Performance indicators to be tracked through Green Hotel’s Global Dashboard
  5. Progress will be measured and discussed monthly at Green Team meeting
  6. On-going training and awareness campaigns will take place to address areas of opportunity
  7. Baseline for all goals is 2012


 In an effort to achieve an environmentally friendly business, as well as conserve and protect Colorado’s natural resources, The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa promotes our facility as a green lodge through the following programs: 


  • Hotel wide composting program established April 2014
  • Organic tower gardens supplement produce for our most elegant menu offerings
  • Hotel wide composting program is under development and will be operational by 2014
  • Single stream recycling is used through Waste Management company to include composting
  • Sustainable seafood menu
  • Water source for the hotel is our own Artesian Well, located 750 feet below the hotel
  • Reusable glassware is used in the employee dining area
  • Seasonal and locally grown foods are used
  • Cooking oils are recycled into bio-diesel
  • Grease traps are regularly serviced with biodegradable cleaners
  • Hood/Vents are serviced and cleaned regularly
  • Dishwashers have built in hot water boosters
  • Hot water tanks are flushed every 6 months
  • Energy star appliances are purchased when available
  • Freezers and refrigerators are constantly monitored and serviced
  • Menus printed on recycled paper
