"The Brown Palace Hotel has its own historian?" Incredulous guests ask this question every day followed by, "That must be a great job!"
Indeed, it is and I am proud to work in a place that values the preservation of so many precious memories.
As the Brown Palace historian and archivist, it is my responsibility to maintain the collection of artifacts, historic files and scrapbooks
contained in the hotel's extensive archives and lobby displays. We are pleased to accept donations of Brown Palace memorabilia which help
to expand our archival collections and enhance our lobby displays. It is also my privilege to act as a guide for the guests and visitors
who participate in the hotel's historical tours each Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00pm.
Each week I discover new information about this fascinating hotel and its place in Denver's history. As new facts are uncovered about the
people and events that shaped the history of this hotel, we find ways to incorporate those stories into our tours and client presentations.
History unfolds itself in the most unexpected ways. As a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and a former resident of Littlefield
dormitory on the UT campus, it was particularly exciting to happen across the signature of Col. George W. Littlefield of Austin, TX in the
Brown's 1908 guest register. The time I spend researching and organizing data allows me the opportunity to share these fun anecdotes and
bits of history with our guests and visitors.
When I lead tours, I become the Brown Palace storyteller and make the stories of the past century come alive for people.
