Fall Season Ushers In Month Of Spooky Tours, Monstrous Treats AT Brown Palace Hotel

WHO: Downtown Denver's only Four-Star/Four-Diamond hotel, The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa, which has been welcoming guests every day since its doors opened on Aug. 12, 1892. The historic hotel boasts four distinctive dining experiences, a new $3 million spa, and unique meeting and function space, all within walking distance of the city's most popular sites.

WHAT: Getting into the spirit of Halloween, The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa has planned special tours of the popular historical haunt. From Oct. 2-31, 2007, the complimentary*, 45-minute tours will take place Tuesday through Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. The hotel's historian will lead wide-eyed guests on a tour through some of The Brown's more hair-raising hauntings, telling tales of mysterious sightings and disturbances from its 115 year past.

One story on the tour involves Mrs. Louise Crawford Hill, who ruled Denver society and lived in room 904 of The Brown from 1940 to 1955. Mrs. Hill was one of several permanent guests who lived in 20 apartments located on the top two floors of the hotel from 1937 to 1986. During the renovation of these floors the hotel historian conducted a series of tours which included stories about the apartment residents – including Mrs. Hill. Once stories about her life and heartbreak over a lost love were recounted on the tours, the hotel's main switchboard began receiving calls from room 904. When answering the calls, the hotel operator heard only static on the line. The calls were a great mystery, because room 904 had been stripped of all furniture, lights, wallpaper, carpet and telephones during the renovation. The historian took Mrs. Hill's saga out of the tour, and the calls from room 904 ceased.

In addition to the tours, a special Halloween Monster Brunch is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28, for which Ellyngton's restaurant will undergo a spooktacular transformation, with costumed wait staff and Halloween themed food.

Special nightly room rates also begin at $189.

WHEN: Historical Tours – Oct. 2-31, 2007; Tuesday-Saturday; beginning at 1 p.m.
